The Man Who Made Wine
Sept. 16th 2011
I like to add a wine related post from time to time. Here's a fun find I stumbled across a few years back.
A new wine quote to add to the list:
"Little wine, be good. You are about to mix with the blood of a brave man."
From the story of one mans love and life along side his vines and wine.
Also from the book:
"If those knobbly old vine stocks with the delicate roots which reached so far down - if they could talk they could say something worth listening to. Vines were so much more sensitive than men. "
"Vines could not be cheated. They were the masters and men the servants. Men could understand only when the fruit had been translated into wine - and then it often took years to appreciate the subtleties."

EGG CARTON RECYCLING
We all have them so what's the next step?
I tend to recycle the paper ones or reuse them for painting pallets. I was curious what others have been doing with theirs. I was a little sad not to find better results for styrofoam cartons. Please please post any ideas you have for these. I would really like to see some useful ideas not just the kids crafts. As cute as those can be I'm pretty sure most of them go to the trash before too long.
Here are my results. Hope this inspires you to try something new with yours.
Happy Crafting!

Trashy Crafter Interview
1. How did you first get into up-cycled crafting? What is the first upcycled craft/artwork you ever made?
This started at a very young age before we had the up-cycled label to put on it. I was always tinkering with the little pieces of this and that in the garage and my grandfathers barn. I would create little pieces of art from all sorts of stuff. One of the first things I remember making was a small shelf from scrap wood my grandfather had trashed from a much larger project. For years I used it to hold little trinkets and figurines.
3. What mediums do you typically work with?
I turn plastic bottle caps into pincushions and beer bottle caps are worked into different wood projects. I create mosaic’d frames filled with wine corks used as trivets and coasters. I also make stamps and wine glass charms from cork.
4. Why do you believe the recycled art/craft movement is so important?
Recycled arts and crafts are helping people become aware of their trash. More and more people are wanting to take responsibility for what they’re leaving behind in the form of trash. We’re all using our imaginations a little more and taking it upon ourselves to find creative new uses for things.

Waste for Life-Work
to reduce the damaging environmental impact of non-recycled plastic waste products and to promote self-sufficiency and economic security.
"Putting aside the sheer absurdity that humans believe we can just pollute the planet until it dies, these garbage patches provide a huge danger to animals, both water based and air based. Plastics entangle birds while fish unwittingly mistake small bits of plastic for plankton and other edible treats. Countless stories exist of fish being caught and their bellies being full of plastic debris." Joshua S Hill

This is a small group of Etsy finds created with reused plastics. There are so so many other recycled shopping choices so visit Etsy and take a look.
