Milk Carton Caps

I don't know about you but in my house we drink at least 2 gallons of milk a week.  That's approx 110 caps that can not be recycled in a year.  It's taken me a while to figure out a use for these.  What I've decided to do is create a medallion style necklace.

Materials needed:
 - whole punch
 - plastic milk carton cap
 - embroidery thread
 - embroidery needle
 - felt

1.  For this project I'm starting with one milk carton cap.  I have used a whole punch to create the hole in the center.

2.  Using the needle string the thread from the outside of the cap thru the center of the cap until the cap is completely covered with the thread.  Create a pattern by alternating the colors.  Tie off your thread.   Consider adding a few beads here and there to really embellish your trash to treasure necklace.

3. Cut a small circle of felt just big enough to cover the backside of your cap.  Punch a hole into the center of your circle.  Glue to the backside with tacky glue.

4.  Cut 3 or 4 strands of embroidery thread long enough to use as a necklace.  Next tie little nots ever inch or so.  Tie the two ends together to create a loop.  Now take the knotted end and pull it thru the center of your embroidered cap and slip not this around the cap.   It is now complete.
